Home Based Medical Transcription

There has been a tremendous rise in the demand for Medical Transcribers in almost every hospital. Medical transcriber plays a very vital role in recording the dictated information made by different physicians and other health care professionals. Their job is to basically listen to dictated recordings and accordingly transcribe them into detailed reports. The information noted down by the medical transcriber is very important as it greatly influences the future medical treatment of a patient. As a result even a small error or flaw on part of the medical transcriber can have a great impact on the recovery process of a patient. Thus, formal training on part of the medical transcriber is very important for the well being of a patient.

In order to become a successful medical transcriber you need to

• Complete your post secondary training in Medical transcription , offered by different community colleges, vocational schools and distance learning programs.
• You can also complete a 1-year certificate program or a 2-year associate degree in the field to gain better knowledge about the subject.
• Some of the courses you can master in are Anatomy, medical terms and legal issues involving health care documentation. Excellent grammar and punctuations of the English language are necessary though not compulsory.
• You need to have good basic knowledge about computers and word processing software. You need to master yourself in understanding the different software’s such as medical spell checker and an abbreviation system such as PRD or Smart type.

A highly experience medical transcriber can elevate to administrative positions, editing, home base work or teaching. By taking the necessary supplementary training or education medical transcribers can become health information technicians, health information administrators or even medical coders.

There is no doubt that medical transcription is a highly paid post in the industry today. People prefer to stick to medical transcription irrespective of the stress, hard work and concentration level required on part of the transcriber.
